Police say the driver and passenger of a vehicle involved in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 402 Monday were killed, and another individual was transported by Air ORNGE to hospital.

In a news release Tuesday, Lambton OPP said the two individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision that happened on the westbound Highway 402 near Modeland Road in Sarnia. "Another involved individual sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital," police said. "The West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team attended the scene to assist with the investigation." Police are asking anyone with information or dashcam footage of the area during the event  to contact Lambton County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 as the investigation continues.

Emergency crews were called just before 2 p.m., OPP said. Police, Sarnia Fire Rescue and Lambton EMS all responded to the scene.

The 402 westbound lanes remained closed at Modeland Road for several hours before reopening early Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, a separate Highway 402 collision occurred on the westbound ramp at Oil Heritage Road, according to the Ministry.

The accident, around 12 noon, forced the closure of the westbound lanes at the time, but no other information was provided.
