Gabrielle Jones of Northern Collegiate and Ashton Vink of Wallaceburg District Secondary School were honoured for their outstanding athletic and academic achievements, this month.
Jones was named to the Stefanko Award, while Vink earned the Dr. Jack Parry Award — both presented annually for outstanding achievement in athletics, academic and extra-curricular activities.
Jones is an Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) gold medal winner, and was selected by Athletics Ontario as an All-Ontarian Track and Field Athlete, the board noted.
“During her high school career, she has been a member of NCIVS’ cross country, golf, swim and track and field teams. Gabrielle has also been a Student Council Co-Prime Minister and Key Club Co-President, as well as a member of the Peer Mentoring Program.
“Gabrielle will continue both her academic and athletic pursuits at the University of Pennsylvania.”
Vink has participated in football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, track and field, swimming, badminton and golf.
He was involved in Student Council, Student Athletic Association, and multiple community-led activities, in addition to being named valedictorian of his graduating class.
“Ashton will be continuing his studies at Lambton College in the Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technician program,” the board added.
“We are proud of the 2023 recipients of the Dr. Jack Parry Award and Stefanko Awards,” said Director John Howitt. “These students are leaders for their communities in academics, athletics and volunteering, and we wish them the best as they move forward in their future endeavours.”
