All public sports fields and playgrounds in Sarnia are now smoke-free.
On Jan. 1 smoking became illegal anywhere within 20 metres of soccer fields, baseball diamonds, splash pads, beach volleyball courts, playgrounds and other areas.
"Children are more vulnerable to the harmful effects of second-hand smoke,” said Ashlyn Brown, a health promoter with Lambton Public Health.
Smoke-Free Ontario Act also bans smoking on bar and restaurant patios and the sale of tobacco on college campuses.
