It’s a celebration of all things Mitton Village – and it’s set to return this Saturday, Aug. 26.
The Mitton Village Block Party (MVBP), now in its fifth year, runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features a full slate of local artists, vendors, food, and live music.
The family-friendly event, organized by local residents and business owners, also includes a variety of kids’ activities, including giant inflatables, games from the YMCA Project North program and a dance party just for kids (11 a.m.).
"It's amazing to see how much has changed in five years," said event organizer Joshua Walters. "We started out with the goals to change the narrative around Mitton Village and celebrate the neighbours and businesses here.
“I think we're doing that and I'd love to see it happen in neighbourhoods across the City."
Despite two years of pandemic restrictions, the MVBP has managed to keep its annual celebration alive since 2019.
Its humble beginnings have spawned a movement of new businesses and volunteers in the neighbourhood reaching far beyond the event alone.
With the City's recent upgrades to its municipal parking lot, local residents are activating space along Mitton Street regularly.
