The Sarnia & District Labour Council has endorsed Lo-Anne Chan as its choice for Member of Parliament in the riding of Sarnia–Lambton–Bkejwanong.

Chan, the NDP candidate, received the Council’s backing on April 17. In its official release, the Council highlighted her consistent support for unionized workers, noting her participation in local demonstrations alongside members of CUPW 598 and OPSEU 145.

“Her support even extends back further, as she walked the line with ETFO in 2019 and CUPE 1238 in 2022,” the release stated.

“It’s been an honour to stand alongside workers to fight for fairer wages and safer workplaces,” Chan said in a comment to The Journal. “New Democrats will be there to protect their jobs, their healthcare, and their pension when times get tough. Canadian workers know the NDP is the party that they can count on.”

Chan has lived in Sarnia since 2012 and is active in the community, having served on the boards of the Sarnia-Lambton Children’s Aid Society, Sarnia-Lambton Rebound, and Community Legal Assistance Sarnia.

She thanked the Labour Council for the endorsement and said she hopes it serves as a reminder of her long-standing support for workers.
“We stand up and fight for what’s right, because we care about real people and real change — not because we’re trying to buy a vote,” she said.

“A vote for Lo-Anne is a vote for solidarity,” the Labour Council added.

Election day is April 28, with advance polls open over the Easter weekend.
