Members of the Sarnia Pride and Transgender Association are asking council to formally recognize June as Pride Month in Sarnia and fly the rainbow flag at City Hall.
A delegation is expected to tell council May 6 that such a designation would help commemorate community members who have died or suffered through hate crimes and the AIDS epidemic, and honour their achievement in advancing human rights.
If the city’s single-flag policy can’t accommodate the request, the group says, the city could alternatively change the outside lighting at City Hall to rainbow colours and fly the flag at secondary locations.
