Emergency Preparedness Day is returning for its 14th year on Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lambton College. After a five-year hiatus, the event once again brings together emergency responders, safety organizations, and industry partners to promote awareness and community readiness.
Held during Emergency Preparedness Week, this year’s theme — “Be Prepared. Know Your Risks” — encourages residents to learn about the specific hazards that could affect their area, including floods, power outages, and chemical releases. In Sarnia-Lambton, where industrial and environmental risks are more pronounced, understanding those risks is a key part of public safety.
The free, family-friendly event will feature live demonstrations, informative workshops, and both indoor and outdoor exhibits. Emergency vehicles and equipment will be on display, and attendees can speak directly with first responders and safety experts.
“Emergency Preparedness Day is an opportunity for the community to learn from industry and emergency response experts while seeing firsthand the resources we have available in the region,” said Tracy Krull, senior communications advisor for the Bluewater Association for Safety, Environment and Sustainability (BASES), the lead organizer of the event.
Indoor exhibits will be located in Gym D, while outdoor displays will fill Parking Lot 13 (the north lot). The event is supported in part by Suncor, Shell, and Imperial.
Highlights include free giveaways, door prizes, and a Kids’ Fun Zone with inflatables, face painting, temporary tattoos, and mascots. A $5 charity BBQ hosted by the Rotary Club of Sarnia will be available on site, with proceeds supporting local community initiatives.
Emergency Preparedness Day continues to promote readiness and resilience in Sarnia-Lambton while showcasing the strong partnerships behind local emergency response efforts. Admission is free and all are welcome.
