The city's 'Adopt-a-Driveway' program pairs volunteers with older homeowners and homeowners living with a disability to assist in snow removal between December and April.

The leaves might not have changed colour and fallen off just yet, but the city of Sarnia is already getting ready for winter.

The city is looking for volunteers for their ‘Adopt-A-Driveway’ program, which helps residents over 60 and those living with a disability who demonstrate financial need, by clearing their driveways, walkways, and sidewalks.

“The program is such a great way for residents to give back to their community,” says Steve Henschel, communications manager for the City of Sarnia.

“Be it high school students working on their community service hours, or a workplace group getting out for some team building, we can’t thank those willing to step up enough for their contribution.”

Volunteers remove snow every time three or more inches accumulate between December and April, with the city providing shovels, salt, and safety vests.
