The Bluewater Big Band returns to the Imperial Theatre on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. for its sixth annual concert collaboration, The Music of 007. The show will spotlight signature themes from the James Bond films, from Dr. No (1962) to Skyfall (2012).
Audiences can expect live performances of classics like “Goldfinger,” “Diamonds Are Forever,” “Live and Let Die,” “From Russia with Love,” and “You Know My Name.” Tickets are $40 and go on sale Wednesday, June 26 at imperialtheatre.net or by calling 519‑332‑6591.
Tim Hummel, director of the Bluewater Big Band, said this concert stands apart from anything the group has done before.
“In the 25 years we’ve been performing concerts, I have never seen our musicians more excited and challenged than by this Bond set list,” he said. “The Bond series and its music are beloved worldwide, and this show features the work of legends like Paul McCartney, Carly Simon, Adele, Tom Jones, Sheryl Crow, Louis Armstrong, Gladys Knight, Duran Duran, Sheena Easton, Shirley Bassey, and Burt Bacharach.”
To capture the scope and style of the original recordings, the band has sourced musical arrangements from big bands in the UK, Denmark, Germany, and Australia, and created original charts for several selections.
Hummel has also assembled a cast of five featured vocalists—Kalie Woodcock, Chris McCloskey, Maddie MacAlpine, Jayme Davies, and Ryan Metzler—all familiar faces to Imperial Theatre audiences.
For Brian Austin Jr., executive director of the Imperial Theatre, the show has personal resonance. His grandfather was named James Bond, and his uncle Johnny Bond led a Sarnia big band for decades.
“This one’s special,” said Austin. “Bond music is bold, stylish, dramatic—it’s perfect for the big band treatment. Combine that with some of the finest local singers and musicians we have and it’s clear that Tim has put together a powerhouse concert.”
