Sarnia is one of the few municipalities in Ontario that doesn’t provide blue boxes to new residents.
But city council has agreed to start as a way to boost recycling and increase the odds of scoring more funds from Waste Diversion Ontario.
Purchasing 1,500 blue boxes for recent and future homebuyers will cost about $8,250.
Sarnians can also use clear plastic bags, but the recycling centre has found they often contain more unrecyclable garbage than blue boxes, said city engineer Andre Morin
