A new art festival is set to transform downtown Sarnia and Mitton Village into a self-guided celebration of local creativity this August.

The two-day event invites residents and visitors to explore ten themed art “pods” positioned across the city’s core. Each location will feature a curated mix of live art, performances, pop-up galleries, artisan markets, and hands-on activities — all designed to be experienced by foot or by bike.

“ARTPATH isn’t just a festival — it’s an invitation to move through the city in a new way,” said event coordinator Kylie Marsden. “It’s about discovery, creativity, and engaging with local talent in unexpected spaces.”

The event builds on the spirit of Sarnia’s former Artwalk events, but introduces a more decentralized and immersive format. In addition to live installations and performances, each pod will include community-led programming and opportunities to shop directly from local makers.

Pod locations include the Suncor Agora, Paddy Flaherty’s, the Lawrence House, George Street, Lochiel Street, Maud’s Variety, Coldwell Banker, and sites throughout Mitton Village. Full maps and programming details will be available online closer to the event.

“ARTPATH began as a grassroots idea and has grown into a city-wide experience thanks to the creativity and collaboration of local groups,” said co-founder Patrick Coutu. The idea was born from early conversations between Coutu and former Artwalk coordinator Shawn McKnight, and developed with support from community group nuSarnia, which helped incubate the project and hire Marsden to lead it.

“Sarnia’s downtown is one of the many things that make our city a great place to live,” said Conor Poutney, Vice President of Suncor’s Sarnia refinery. “We’re excited about this unique opportunity to showcase our community and local artistic talent while creating connections.”

ARTPATH is presented by Suncor and supported by a wide range of local partners, artists, and volunteers. Organizers emphasize that the event is open and accessible, encouraging people to walk, cycle, or drive between pods to experience the full route.

Vendor and artist applications are now open through the event website. “We want this to reflect the diversity and creativity of the community,” said Marsden. “Whether you're a performer, visual artist, craftsperson, or part of a community group, we invite you to be part of it.”

ARTPATH runs August 16 and 17 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. Full details, including artist and vendor applications, can be found at artpathsarnia.ca.
