LETTER: Death Cafés were part of Sarnia’s community as early as 2017

Letters to the editor

Good morning,

I am writing in response to the article about the first Death Cafe in Sarnia.  The first death cafe offered in Sarnia was actually offered to our community in 2017  in partnership with McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Katherine Scimmi and Heather Taylor RN.  We held monthly open meetings offering a safe place to talk and educate about death and dying.  We even expanded our offerings and brought in local police, doctors, and support organizations in our community to help people understand the services available in our community.  We ran this program until COVID happened. I believe we may have even advertised this is your paper.  Its great that Allan is offering this up again, because it is important to educate people, but it certainly is not the first time that it has been offered.

Sincerely

Katherine Scimmi
Owner, McKenzie & Blundy
