Off the main path in the heart of Grand Bend, Midori Sushi has long been a cherished spot for locals and tourists alike, offering more than just a meal—it’s an experience. Whether you're looking for an intimate date night, a quick lunch, or a festive evening with friends, Midori consistently delivers a dining experience that’s both memorable and delicious. Recently under new ownership, Midori continues to impress, blending innovative ideas with a passion for fresh, local ingredients, creating a menu that feels as refreshing as it is satisfying.

Our evening began with a dish that immediately caught our attention: the Blueberry Hoisin Habanero Wings. This dish was nothing short of extraordinary. The wings, plump and substantial, were smothered in a rich, dark hoisin blueberry habanero sauce that was beautifully balanced. The heat from the habanero was remarkably mild, surprising given its fiery reputation, and the sweetness from the blueberry and the umami of the hoisin worked harmoniously. What truly elevated this dish was the unexpected addition of candied fennel—a unique touch that added a delightful crunch and a slightly sweet, aromatic flavour, like crispy little sprinkles. It was a pairing that you wouldn’t expect but were so glad you tried. Each bite was more delicious than the last, making it an unforgettable start to the meal.

Next, we moved on to the Shrimp Tempura a classic appetizer that Midori has clearly perfected. The shrimp were pristine, tender, and juicy, and the batter—light, airy, and crisp—melted in your mouth. The accompanying sweet Thai dipping sauce complemented the tempura perfectly, offering a subtle sweetness. It’s a simple dish, but executed with such finesse that it’s impossible not to appreciate the level of care behind it.

Now, onto the sushi—if you thought the appetizers were impressive, the sushi rolls truly blew us away. They were quite simply art on a plate. The "Pay It Forward" Roll was a delightful combination of spicy tuna, jalapeno, and green onion, topped with spicy mayo. The fresh, tender tuna paired perfectly with the slight heat of the jalapeno and the creamy mayo, creating a vibrant and zesty bite that was as refreshing as it was bold.
Next, we tried the "Dynamite Roll" which was a rich, flavourful combination of crab, shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber, and roe, all drizzled with Asian sesame and spicy mayo. This roll was a textural masterpiece—each bite offered a combination of creamy, crunchy, and tender elements, with the shrimp tempura adding a delightful crunch. The subtle smokiness of the sesame and the heat from the spicy mayo made it an indulgent, but balanced, treat.
However, the "Over The Rainbow Roll" was the undeniable highlight of the evening. This roll took a classic California roll and elevated it to new heights, topped with fresh tuna, salmon, and avocado. The fish was nothing short of spectacular—smooth, fresh, and melt-in-your-mouth perfect. Each piece was a reflection of the quality Midori is committed to offering its guests. The balance of flavours and the quality of the ingredients truly set this dish apart and earned it a spot as both of our favourites.

From the start, the service was exceptional. The staff were attentive without being overbearing, offering thoughtful recommendations and ensuring our experience was flawless. And then came dessert. Ice cream stuffed Mochi balls. We were treated to two flavours: a refreshing mint and green tea, and a decadent strawberry cheesecake. The mochi had the perfect chewy texture, with the strawberry cheesecake version being a particular standout. Topped with a tart sauce, it was a beautiful contrast to the creamy, sweet filling. It was a perfect way to end an already extraordinary meal.
From start to finish, Midori Sushi impressed on every level. The food was creative, yet rooted in tradition, with fresh, high-quality ingredients that shone through in every dish. The new ownership has clearly embraced the legacy of the restaurant, bringing their expertise and passion to an already beloved establishment. Whether you're a sushi connoisseur or a casual diner, Midori Sushi in Grand Bend is an absolute must-visit. The balance of flavours, the attention to detail in the presentation, and the seamless service make it a dining experience that will leave you craving more.
