Peacefully, on April 30, 2024, at Lambton Meadowview Villa, Petrolia, Irene Margaret Calhoun (nee Vargo) passed away in her 100th year. She was the beloved wife to the late Robert (1994). Loving mother to Keith Calhoun, Betty (Murray) Brown and Carol (Tom) Cowan, and the late Jim, the late Ernest (Lila) and the late Gord Calhoun. Proud grandma, great grandma, and great-great grandma to many. Predeceased by her brothers John (the late Irene) and Harry (the late Eleanor) Vargo.

Irene came to Canada from Hungary at the age of 1 with her mother and brother, John, to join her father at their Alvinston Farm. When she married Robert, they purchased their own farm on Churchill Line where she lived until 2018. Irene took pride and joy in tending her vegetable garden, lilies, hydrangeas, and roses. She loved having everyone visit her at the farm, spending time and sharing meals together. Irene, the true matriarch of our family, will be dearly missed by so many loved ones and friends, and of course, by her furry friend, Tango.

A private graveside service will take place at Wyoming Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the C.E.E. Hospital Foundation (ceehf.ca).
